📖 Study Tip: A major component of APUSH is analyzing to what extent an event can be considered a "turning point." This means that while studying for the exam you should look at the causes, effects, and big-picture trends.

🔄 For example, while the end of the Civil War marked the end of slavery, systems such as sharecropping and the formation of the KKK continued pre-war race relations and perpetuated a lack of economic independence for southern blacks. Historians still debate about the long term effects of the various reconstruction plans.

💭 While you study post Civil War events, you should draw your own conclusions as to how the events of this era continued or changed situations, trends, and the lives of different Americans.
