Understanding the AP Statistics Exam format will help you be able to study and practice your timing before the exam in May!

The AP Statistics exam is composed of two parts: 📘

Multiple Choice: ✏️

  • Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes
  • Number of Questions: 40
  • Weight: 50% of exam score
  • A calculator is permitted
  • 5 answer choices (A,B,C,D, or E)
  • Not penalized for incorrect answers
  • No scratch paper provided. Although, you may use the margins in the test booklet for scratch work

Free Response: 🖊

  • Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes (You will have 65 minutes for the first five questions and 25 minutes for the sixth question)
  • Number of Questions: 6 (Question six is different from the rest because it is an investigative task, so it is the longest question and has the most parts).  
  • Weight: 50% of exam score (The first five questions are worth 37.5% collectively and the sixth question is worth the remaining 12.5%) 
  • A calculator is permitted
