What is discourse?

Discourse: Spoken or written language, including literary works.

What are the four types of discourse? 

The 4⃣ traditionally classified modes of discourse are description, exposition, narration, and persuasion.

The purpose of description is to visually present a person, place, event, or action so the audience can picture what is being conveyed.

Examples include:
⚫️ Journal entries
⚫️ Poetry

The purpose of exposition is to explain and analyze information.

Examples include:
⚫️ Recipes
⚫️ Journalism

The purpose of narration is to tell a story.
