What is Fiveable doing to keep students safe in the Community Space?

⛑ The safety of the students in our spaces is extremely important to Fiveable. The people most involved in supporting the safety of students are our moderator team and the adults on the Experience Team at Fiveable.

🗣 Our moderators are the first point of contact when dealing with unsafe situations within the server. If you’re having issues within the server relating to spam, abuse, or harassment, moderators can be contacted via the Fiveable Bot, which can be located on the rightmost sidebar (the member list) under the heading “Need Help? Message me!”. Additionally, if something is especially time sensitive or inappropriate, you can ping @Moderators in the chat.

🧠 Moderators and the Experience Team also support students in mental health situations. When students reference serious situations like abuse, self harm, or suicidal ideation in the server, our moderator team reaches out with resources via the Fiveable Bot and an adult from the Experience Team follows up directly with the student. The adults on our Experience Team are trained in Mental Health First Aid and support students in accessing resources that can help them.

💬 In addition to our teams here at Fiveable, we also partner with two organizations to provide additional mental health support to our students. We partner with the Crisis Textline to provide 24/7 support from licensed therapists to our students. You can access this resource by texting FIVEABLE to 741-741. We also partner with Joon, a teletherapy resource specifically for teens and young adults. Each month, we put out a survey on a topic for students to ask questions directly to therapists on their team. Then, they write a blog piece on that topic, addressing students’ questions and concerns. This can be read on our website.
